Refuge + Bodhichitta
Introduction
There are many different texts used to take the refuge and bodhichitta vows. When Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche gave the refuge and bodhichitta vows on Vesak (May 7, 2020; see transcript) he used the verses below (from Shantideva’s Bodhicharyavatara)1These are also the verses used in the annual Nyingma mönlam in Bodh Gaya. The mönlam prayer book, which includes these liturgies, may be downloaded from Nyingma Mönlam Chenmo.. In taking the vows, students recited the refuge verse three times in Tibetan and once in Sanskrit, and the bodhichitta verses three times in Tibetan. English pronunciations of the Tibetan and Sanskrit verses are provided.
